An announcement by the Government about nurses' pay is imminent and nurses could receive an award of just 1.5% - even though the real rate of inflation is currently 4.2%. 

With council tax bills up by an average of 3.5%, regulated rail fares up by 4.3% and higher interest rates increasing monthly mortgage repayments, an award of this level would actually mean a substantial real terms pay cut for nurses like me of 2.7%.
